How to Partition A Hard Disk in Windows 10?

Windows is the most useful and popular Operating system developed by Microsoft. This operating system is loaded with lots of exciting features and free tools.

Windows users who have purchased a brand-new Windows 10 Laptop/Computer or if you have bought a new SSD/HDD and installed it in your computer then you have to partition your drive before using it.

Partitioning your hard drive in Windows 10 is quick and very easy. It is a great way to organize your data and with one more partition, you can separate Windows OS, games, downloads or personal files.

With Windows 10 built-in Disk Management tool you can easily create a new volume for your new or existing hard drive. To make it easier for yourself, just follow the steps given below.

Note: If you have bought a new Laptop/Computer or a new Hard Drive, skip to Step 4.

Step 1: You got many ways to access Windows 10 Disk Management and the simplest one is; press Windows + X keys to bring up the power user menu and click Disk Management.

Step 2: Select a drive you want to partition from the list and right-click on it and select “Shrink Volume”.

Step 3: Your computer will now calculate how much free space you can allocate to the new partition. Once completed, it will ask you to enter the amount of space you want to shrink in Megabytes (MB) as shown in the picture below and then click on the “Shrink” button.

Step 4: A new unallocated space will be created, Right-click on it and select “New Simple Volume”.

Step 5: Now, A New Simple Volume Wizard will be pop-up. Click on “Next” three times. Now, if you want to label your volume then you can do it under the “Volume Label” section and then click on “Next” and then “Finish”.

Taddaa! You’re done! You will now have a brand-new partition. You can also create more partitions by repeating the above steps and make your PC run smoothly by organizing your data.
