If you are a frequent Youtuber, then there are some chances that you may know most of these terms already but if not, then learning these words will make your learning much easier and then you will be the expert in YouTube.

1. Community Guidelines 

These are the list of terms and conditions,  viewers and Youtuber must follow them when posting content on YouTube, commenting on videos or in community posts and overall behaviour on the platform. 

It includes things like posting violent or graphic content, hateful, harmful or dangerous content, copyrights, threat, and nudity or sexual content  etc.

2. Vlogmas

I think you may have heard about this word in this month of December because Vlogmas refers to an annual tradition on YouTube where Youtubers post a daily vlog video everyday in December all up until Christmas. 

People usually do Vlogmas because that is the time of year when CPMs are the highest.

3. Cost per Mille ( CPM )

"Cost Per Mille" or "Cost Per Thousand" is the amount of money a Youtuber makes for every 1,000 views on there channel with adsense. The higher you CPM the more money you make.

4. YouTube Community 

The collective name used for everyone involved in YouTube.  Both audience as well as Creators.

5. Credits

It is a tool which help youtubers with over 5,000 Subscribers acknowledge someone's subtitle and closed caption contributions. 

6. Annotations

The clickable, customized layers of text, link, and notes you can place on your YouTube video.

7. Metadata

The combination of title, descriptions, thumbnail and tags for the video intended to attract viewers to click on your video.

8. Optimization

The optimal combination of your metadata to improve the chances of getting views and subscribers.

9. Avatar

Basically, the profile photo of your YouTube channel. It is the small square image on your channel that will appear next to your channel name.

10. Call To Action ( CTA )

The action taken by your viewers towards the clickable buttons when you ask to do so on your videos. " Make sure you subscribe to us and share this post" is a CTA to Subcribe and Share.

11. Clickbait

Using a title or thumbnail image that will entice a viewer to click on your video. This is mostly used by youtubers to increase their views.

12. Adsense

Adsense is the easiest way to monetize your YouTube channel.  Ads will be played automatically after enabling Adsense on your channel.

Your channel needs at least 4000 watch hours in the previous 12 months and at least 1000 subscribers to apply for YouTube Adsense.

13. Monetization

Monetization is the way of earning money through ads, product promotion, backlinks or sponsorships for the videos you upload on your YouTube channel.

14. Affiliate Marketing 

This is another very  popular way of earning money through YouTube.  You can promote the sponsor's products through posting affiliate links on your videos through annotations or the video description. 

You will receive a commission when someone buy the product through your special link.

15. Click Through Rates ( CTR )

It shows the number of times a link is clicked, divided by the number of times the link is viewed in the video.

16. YouTube Strikes

When a channel violates the terms and conditions or community guidelines of youtube the YouTube issue a strike and remove the content which violates the terms. A strike last for 90 days and then its reset to normal.

17. YouTube 3 Strike Rule

After you get a strike, the YouTube 3 strike rule starts. If you get 3 strike in between 90 days by violating the guidelines on your channel then the YouTube can delete your  channel and all of its videos permanently. 

18. Patreon/ Donations 

Patreon is another way of making money from your loyal fans. You will need a huge amount of subscribers that are loyal to you and can donate you about $2 to $5 per month.

Members who pay you can access to exclusive videos or content provided by you only for the exclusive members.

19. Content ID

It is a system implemented by YouTube which automatically checks for copyright infringement. 

20. Paid Content

It is a part of YouTube which is not accessible by everyone. It can only be access by those viewers who had paid for the membership of that particular channel.

21. Vlog

A blog is a video where a Youtuber talks about his personal life and records how he spends his personal time during a day or an event.

22. YouTube Algorithm 

It is a system that YouTube uses to suggest videos to their users to watch them and keep their user on the platform for longer.

Those Youtubers who keeps their viewers on the platform for longer are awarded by YouTube. 

23. Interaction 

Likes, comments and shares you have received by your viewers on your YouTube video over a certain period of time.

24. Influencer 

A influencer is a person who has large followers on social media platforms and has the ability to generate a lots of traffic.

25. End slate 

The branded ending screen of a video you can use to link to other videos of your channel at the last stage of your video.

26. Audience Retention 

Audience Retention means how long your viewers stay with your videos. When viewers watch the full video from start to finish, without skipping anything then it is said to a very good Audience Retention. 

27. Social Widgets

Social widgets are links to your social media accounts such as facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter etc. It's a way of promoting your social media accounts and giving your viewers an another way to interact with you outside the YouTube. 

28. Closed Caption ( CC ) and Subtitles 

The Subtitles tells about what your video is talking about while closed captions include both subtitles of what your video is saying and other sounds you used in your video such as laughing, sound effects and other musics.

29. Copyrights 

It is an exclusive rights given to the creator of the video to use and reproduce the work. Only the owner of the Copyrights can say who and how one can display or use the content that is protected by rights. 

30. Description 

A section below your video where you can write useful information for your viewers or a short paragraph describing about your video's topic.

You can also add some useful links, affiliated links, promotional links, social widgets, credit, and anything else that your viewers find useful.

31. Tags

Relevant words describing the video that make it more search engine friendly and help it rank better.

32. Search Engine Optimization ( SEO)

The combination of analysis, methods, and tactics intended to organically increase the search visibility and ranking of your video.

SEO is the most important for your channel and as well as for your videos and if you don't use SEO keywords, tags or title then you will not be able to rank on the YouTube. 

33. Analytic 

It is a tool that measures the interaction of your viewers with the video you published.

They are typically represented in charts and graphs showing weekly, monthly and yearly video performances. 

34. Channel Teaser/ Trailer 

A channel trailer or teaser is a short video of 2 to 3 minutes maximum that tells about your channel and what type of content you focus on.

35. Channel Art

Channel art or YouTube banner is the image that goes across the top of your channel.

36. Watermark 

The protection symbol or your logo in the video that protects your video.

37. Collaboration 

These are the video where multiple Youtubers appear in one video to cross promote each other.

38. Video Editor 

A feature provided by YouTube to help creators with editing their videos, accessing the creative common licensed videos or music, adding transitions and other creative features. 

39. Thumbnail 

One of the most important features of your videos that should attract viewers to click on it. 

It's the image that represents the video's title or the topic on which the video is talking about.

40. Bulletin

Bulletin means a message which can be send by a channel owner to all their subscribers. The message will appear in the Subscribers’ feeds.
